How to become a delivery driver adequately explained.

How to Become a Delivery Driver

How to become a delivery driver is a very valid question in today’s fast-paced atmosphere. Driving with a rideshare service and a food delivery service are both great side-gig options in the United States. Lyft and Uber report that their drivers take home around 25-35 dollars an hour. Both of the rideshare companies actually take 25% of the driver’s profit, but that still leaves the employee making about 23-32 dollars an hour.

In today’s economy, that stands as a pretty good income for anyone, especially as a side-gig. Now let’s get to the main point of this blog post: how to become a delivery driver? Well, we have a few tips and tricks to help get you started in the driving business.

Have a Consistent Vehicle

You don’t need to have a $40,000 car to be a successful Uber driver, but you do want to have something that is reliable and gets good gas mileage.

As an Uber driver, you really only have one expense, fuel for your vehicle. The better gas mileage you get, the more money you put in your pocket and the less you put in your tank. If you have the opportunity to get a car with better gas mileage it might be worth a shot.

That’s just something to keep in mind. You are also going to want to have a reliable vehicle. Putting constant repair money into your car is going to take away from your overall profit as well.

These tips can be helpful if delivery driving is a side-gig, but almost necessary if it is a full-time job.

Know the Roads

The quicker you can get around town, the more jobs you can complete. Here at Rapidgo, we strongly encourage you to obey all traffic laws at all times, so driving over the speed limit is not something we recommend. However, you can gain an advantage by knowing the backroads, and how to avoid traffic.

Use a good GPS system, and get familiar with your surroundings. We actually wrote a piece about GPS systems and which one is the best for you as a driver. You can check out that blog here!

Sign Up With a Popular Driver Company

There are so many companies to choose from. You can drive for rideshare, and enjoy shuttling people around. Or you can deliver anything from groceries to packages.

A few of the companies that we would recommend are Uber, Lyft, Doordash, Grubhub, and Postmates. Our community seeks to help you get acquainted with the company that you are involved with. You can even work for more than one of them at the same time to maximize your hourly profit.
